Department of Clinical Sciences
The Equine Clinic is now seeking an experienced animal caretaker level 2, primarily to strengthen our unique surgical department. We welcome your application!
About the Job
You will primarily work in the surgical unit, but work in the care unit and outpatient clinic may occur. The job involves preparing for surgeries and setting up afterwards, receiving patients, and participating in patient preparation for surgery, administering medication, caring for and nursing horses, as well as assisting veterinarians during examinations and treatments. You will function as an important team player to ensure that the days run smoothly.

During your employment in the equine department, you will mentor future veterinary nurses and veterinarians, as well as interns from animal high schools.

The working hours are scheduled at all times of the day. All employees in the equine department work under a list service agreement.
Your Background
We are looking for you who are an animal caretaker level 2 for horses. Good horse experience is a requirement. Work experience in animal healthcare at a veterinary hospital is an advantage.
As a person, you are responsible, structured, and orderly. You are flexible, with a strong interest in developing and contributing to development. You have good communication and social skills and understand the importance of maintaining good customer relations and addressing pet owners professionally. You contribute to a positive atmosphere in the workplace and enjoy working both independently and in a team. You are a good team player and prioritize the overall operations of the equine clinic over your own unit. We will place great emphasis on your personal abilities.
About Us
The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research, and doctoral education in anesthesiology, imaging diagnostics, animal care, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Our activities span all animal species.
At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced animal healthcare go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care for companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of animal healthcare.
Under one roof, we offer healthcare for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced imaging diagnostics and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. UDS also includes an ambulatory unit that goes out to stables and farms to examine and treat horses and livestock.
The equine department has about 50 employees and annually receives about 5,000 horses. The department currently has three units: an outpatient clinic with orthopedic cases, farriery, and specialist consultations in respiration, dentistry, dermatology, and ophthalmology. A care unit with both surgical and medical patients. And a surgical unit with both scheduled and emergency surgeries. Our work environment is characterized by commitment, joy, quality, and service.
